An assessment identifies work at a point in time. Someone still needs to review priorities, assign follow-up, and decide when new information changes the plan. A fractional leadership engagement is one way to add a recurring external review without hiring a full-time executive.
Decide what the cadence should cover
- Review the current risk register and changes since the last meeting.
- Track owners, dependencies, and status for agreed remediation items.
- Prepare vendor or customer-security questions for the people responsible.
- Bring policy or AI-governance decisions to the right business owner.
- Report decisions and unresolved items to leadership.
The written scope should say who owns day-to-day decisions, how often meetings occur, which deliverables are produced, and what implementation or testing is outside the retainer. Advisory does not transfer the organization's accountability for its systems.
Before choosing recurring support, list what currently has an owner and what does not. That list can also show whether a defined one-time assessment is the better first step.
